Hence I Blog...

Darren Rowse from Problogger challenges bloggers from around the globe about the goals of blogging with a group writing project. Well, I think it is time to step out of my introvert comfort zone and actually participate in a good thing. Darren's group writing project. I almost passed this one up, filed under: no time, what's the use? and any other excuse I could think of. I started to blog in March of 2006 with one simple goal:

Educate consumers about the effectiveness of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine modalities.

I am a student of this subject at Everglades University, an accredited college in the US of A. The scientific research presented about holistic, non-toxic therapies to disease is mind boggling. There is so much misinformation hosted in cyberspace, I get so wound up, sometimes I want to through my Grande Dark Roast against my computer screen. Thanks to proper breathing techniques I can channel my displeasure into a more civil, acceptable retort. What the world needed was a blog about Alternative Medicine with individual modalities such as acupuncture, hypnosis, exercises, chiropractic, massage, nutrition etc. presented in an objective way, so consumers could form an educated decision about their healthcare. The "Allopaths" (Western doctors) have definitely no time to educate the health care consumer and sometimes, as I experienced firsthand myself, they have blatantly little knowledge about CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) to even start educating patients about their true choices. Many of the so called "Alternative Practitioners" are only out there to rip of the unsuspecting public. So what is one to do?

The Alternative Medicine Blog was born. My true goal of this is not only to further my understanding of the subject, I learn so much simply by researching posts, but create a kind of one stop shop for reliable health information. I just recently applied for HON Code of Conduct (HONcode) for medical and health web sites accreditation. Only a little over 5000 websites are accredited by the Health On the Net Foundation so far. We shall see how my application fared?

These are the reasons the Alternative Medicine Blog exists. Will the money follow? From talking to many people, career coaches, businessman, etc. one thing becomes apparent: Display passion, commitment, and persistence to one thing, whatever that thing might be, and eventually the money will follow. At this point I am glad that I still love my daytime job, and don't have to worry about making a living with my blog. Would it be nice? Definitely!

Patience, Rome was not built in one day.

Hence I blog...

Beste Gesundheit,

Werner
